“A compelling and complex love story” — The Novel Approach reviews We Are Fallingwater

April 7, 2017

“We Are Fallingwater is an exceptional journey with wonderfully crafted characters,
and stands out as one of the best stories surrounding multiple partners I have read in a long time.”

Lindsey’s review of We Are Fallingwater is a delightful read, but it’s also a really well written exploration of some of the themes of the book. I especially appreciated her perspective on the tricky nature of love that crosses boundaries. If you’re hesitant to jump into your first MMF romance, consider her experience:

What made this story stand out? For one, it made me think about so many different gender roles and stereotypes out there that get overlooked. It took on some topics that I know I generally don’t think about, and I had to take a long, hard look at my own misconceptions. Arlo is such an intriguing character, with an open heart and an equally open mind, and through his views on gender roles and fluidity, I had a lot of “Wow, I never considered that!” moments. Books that push me beyond my comfort zone and force me to take a good look at myself are ones that I really enjoy.

Writing my first MMF novel was a bit terrifying, I have to say. I hoped I would be able to navigate the very challenging territory that three characters must tread in establishing a relationship that works for all of them. I’m always a little nervous too when writing major female characters–I know that most of my readers are women, and I try to create female characters they will relate to. I was gratified to find that Lindsey thinks that Cara “truly is a fabulous character.”

Bethany at Rainbow Gold Reviews gives Frat House Troopers 9/10

March 17, 2016

So glad that Bethany picked Frat House Troopers for her “new to me author” review! Honestly, I get it when people say that the title of the book didn’t “grab” them–it was a working title that I picked because I finished the book while watching that wonderfully cheesy movie “Starship Troopers” on late-night cable.

Okay, so I don’t make the best choices under the influence of Casper van Dien’s backside.

CvDShower
I’m just saying.

But back to the review. I love that Bethany gets what I was doing in Frat House Troopers–capturing the story of two people who fall in love first, and think about gender second.

Realizing that the person who knows you better than anyone else in the world, your fears, your weaknesses, your strengths is the one person you want to love for the rest of your life. And then realizing that just because that person is the member of the same sex doesn’t make a difference because they love you just as much as you love them. They are the only person you see, the only face you want to see when you go to sleep and the only one you want to see when you wake. Only for you.

Just so, Bethany. Thanks for a perceptive and lovely review.

5 hearts for Bachelors Party from Love Bytes Reviews

June 6, 2015

WrestlingDemons_FBThumb

Roberta, writing at Love Bytes Reviews, gives Bachelors Party five hearts. I’m always so glad to read a review that considers the evolution of the entire Brandt & Donnelly series.

So, these stories just seem to get better and better. I didn’t even read the blurb for the novel, I just saw it was a Brandt & Donnelly story and I requested the book. I’m so damn glad that I did, I love these characters and I enjoy when they are involved in some stuff going down.
This was such a wonderful installment in the Brandt & Donnelly Capers and I can’t wait for the next adventure!!

Thanks, Roberta, for the long and lovely review.

Bachelors Party gets 5 hearts from MM Good Book Reviews

June 4, 2015

WrestlingDemons_FBThumb

I love me some Lisa at MM Good Book Reviews. Her review of Bachelors Party is long and lovely.

Once again Xavier has given me a story that topped the charts. If there was a way to give it more than five hearts I definitely would. I absolutely love Ethan and Gabe. Two hot and sexy cops that carry guns. What is not to love? This story is about their bachelor party. Hot strippers, alcohol and crazy times to be seen.

The entire novel is about planning a party, which some would consider ridiculous. I’m honored when people like Lisa take it seriously!

Inked Rainbow Reads gives Husband Material 5 stars

May 13, 2015

Sarah, writing at Inked Rainbow Reads, gives Husband Material a lovely review. She keys in on the satirical aspect, which I greatly appreciate–a lot of people love shows like “The Bachelor” so much that even gentle mockery is too much. Then again, the mockery in this book is sometimes not so “gentle.” I’m glad Sarah gets that:

Xavier Mayne has upped his game for this one.  We still have delightful, sexually fluid men served up with humour and empathy, but this time Mayne adds a helping of social satire in the style of Ben Elton or Nick Hornby.

Thanks, Sarah!

MM Good Book Reviews: In Spring Break at the Villa Hermes, “Brandt and Donnelly are still so damn hot together”

May 1, 2015

SpringBreakCoverThumb

Lisa, writing at MM Good Book Reviews, gives Spring Break at the Villa Hermes an enthusiastic 5-Heart rating—and “if I could rate is higher than a five I would.” Awesome!

Ethan and Gabe’s love for each other just keeps getting stronger and their passion is hotter than ever. They also have this love for helping others. I love that it is the way it is written in these stories. With each one you get more of them, but you also get the story of another loving pair that just doesn’t know it yet.

My heart leapt when I read this review, mainly because as the Brandt & Donnelly Capers series runs on, I hope that readers can see the evolution of the troopers who are its heart and soul. I love these guys, and it just thrills me when others feel the same way.
